| I live once more.... |
[Nov. 25th, 2009|05:48 pm] |
... and hath returned to human life. Oh I need to eat solid food so bad.... but it was WORTH IT! I have finished the game at last and, man, when the ending scene played I was touched more than I expected would be from playing a game. It's like watching a long movie, except I was toiling to make it happen, and how it eventually ends. And y'know? I just realize now, that I forgot to do the sex scene........ Oh well there is always youtube! ... what no link? Look for it yourselves, I'm not bothering, not after I slayed 2 high dragons and a shipload of ogres to finally skewer The Archdemon. I remembered it was too late. In the end credit it said she and my female rogue character went on a trip together, so I suppose they went straight to the honey moon anyway.
ANYWAY, enough senseless babbling. Life, here I come! after I send this evil piece of electronic entertainment oversea to poison fellow army man.... mwahahahaha ~~~ I suppose the game deserves more than that blurb for conclusion. How do I even describe this playing experience? It was massive. Epic, even, and considering I only played the core story, and none of the many expansions that is/will be available.
The main story itself is not that innovative. Demonic invasion, the chosen special few with the ability to defeat the Archdemon (not an innovative name either), and the hero may or may not have to sacrifice him/her self in the end. It's old. In Dragon Age: Origins, however, everything takes on a darker tone. I won't spoil it. Story is just like that, but darker.
The meat here is character depth and their complex and unique interaction. In recent years this moral system has really become popular in games. Players gets to make choices, usually about letting someone live, or kill them, like say a mean landlord you beat up; or being nice to someone or being mean. Usually the result is minute and inconsequential to game play and main story line. You let him live, you may see him again later and he thanks you for it; you be nice to that person, and you may get a bit extra gold. Nothing a few minutes of wandering the world map and killing monsties won't get you.
Dragon Age: Origins pushes this player-make-choices system to the core of its own being. Every conversation you hold, you choose your reply and course of action. Each time you choose your next round of options changes, and your situation will evolve in greatly diverse directions. Down to bare bones, the player with this special ability faces Archdemon to try and take it down, that is unchangeable. Everything else does. And you're the one that's (unwittingly perhaps) deciding.
And they're not stupidly obvious choices either, not like 1.) Save drowning kittens = good 2.) Let kittens drown = bad. No. Neither are they rigidly patterned maze with only 1 twisty path that will work. There is no "work" or "not work". You can piss everyone in the face or kill everything at the first given chance, and eventually cut your way to the Archdemon alone. It'll work, very difficultly, but it'll work. The sometimes annoyingly numerous choices dictates your story in accordance to whom you're talking to/acting upon, AND to those traveling with you.
Oh yeah, you get to choose who to recruit into your party, and are allowed to take 3 "side kicks" - for lack of better term right now - with you when you jump around on the world map. They judge you - what you choose to say and do. If they don't like you they'll leave, or betray you. Certain party members can be sedu-I mean romanced if they like you enough. I'm sure everyone knows about that part... .
As aforementioned, the party member you choose to recruit and then keep, and how they feel about your progress in the game, also contributes back to your progress in the game. Yeah. It opens up or closes up even more options! How fun! Or perhaps headache? And not just your traveling buddies, other quest-related characters too, they all have their own personalities, background, and how they view the world. If you don't pay attention to that when you make your choices on actions, or in conversation with them, you won't get along, and your future options - with them, with side quests, and with the main quest - will be limited (if that's part of your concern. Some people like to dash through only the main quest).
So this game, the gaming experience from this one, is its player's own making for a very large portion. Of course, the combination is not infinite, but it certainly is a LOT. Like I said, massive. And I'm only playing the "core story", according to BioWare's Dragon Age team person. |

I've been gone for a whole week, not to anywhere, just sucked into Dragon Age Origins. I dunno, something about dying around every corner and every castle room just seems to pick at my pride so much I feel the more urge to replay until I conquer them. It's a difficult game. I'm far from done either. A long series of mistakes has made the game almost inprogressable, if that's a word, and the series of crashes and errors had had me reinstall the game once, recreate character 3 times, and replay almost every other stage... often more than 3 times. But what excuses is that anyway? I'm just a hopeless game junkie.
A class has started for me, so that'll be something to look forward to. Meanwhile, I tried out some new technique with color pencils...

I can't figure out how to make decent customizations. It's either everything becomes transparent, or no. And I've already flushed at least 3 hours on figuring out how codes work again, that's too much! |

Bloody bloody weekly. I am so out of practice. Opacity and brush strokes feel so foreign to me. Self portrait, sort of.

I'm still at work right now. Overtime and some other crap. I shall commit sepuku with this pen right here after I've drawn with it. ... I need a redbull. |
